Mission
To lay the groundwork for a new Spartan experience on this campus – an experience that will add value to an MSU degree by aligning academics and student development for a residential experience that is uniquely Michigan State University.
Goals/Membership Deliverables
To deeply explore and define the following themes regarding the Spartan First Year Experience:
- Providing opportunities for intentional student interaction
- Providing tools for academic success
- Helping students develop a sense of belonging
- Providing intentional opportunities for cross-cultural interaction among students
- Providing programs and services that students find fun
- Developing structured academic opportunities specifically for freshmen (i.e., freshmen seminar)
- Instilling in students what it means to be a Spartan (i.e., MSU Creed)
INTEGRATED DINING WORK GROUP

Mission
To lay the groundwork for a new and improved dining experience on this campus – an experience with greater value and access than ever before.
Goals/Membership Deliverables
To deeply explore and define the following themes regarding the Integrated Dining Experience:
- All students are the primary market
- Dining is open and attractive to all (address/embrace diversity)
- Common currency
- Retain/provide All-You-Care-To-Eat (AYCE) and complementary retail in each zone (including central)
- Size and mix based on demand
- Fiscal responsibility
- “It’s all about the experience”
- The facility is a significant contributor to the experience
- Ongoing renewal
- Transparent/seamless service no matter who is providing the service
- Sustainable practices

To assist the Executive Management Team in creating a culture of excellence committed to the mission of the Division of Housing and Food Services and Michigan State University.
Goals
- To develop strategies to communicate organizational culture and shared values.
- To assist in the development of orientation programs and to participate in the delivery of training and organization sessions.
- To assist in the development and implementation of the H&FS value promise to our customers: residents, staff, faculty, and conference guests.
- To provide accurate information to staff.
- To share information and communicate to others within H&FS.
Membership Deliverables
- To develop and implement a comprehensive orientation program for all employees.
- To develop strategies to communicate the H&FS value promise using multiple media formats.
- To develop strategies to communicate the H&FS shared values and develop meaningful methods of implementing those values in our everyday work activities.

To assist the Executive Management Team in exploring, developing and implementing new business ventures that will generate additional revenue, meet return on investment objectives, and provide value to our customers.
Goals
- To explore and develop new business ventures that will generate additional revenue for the Division of Housing and Food Services.
- To develop business case and return on investment (ROI) for each potential business venture.
- To develop the implementation plan after the project receives approval.
- To execute the plan.
- To provide accurate information to staff.
- To share information and communicate to others within H&FS.

FINANCE AND BUDGET WORK GROUP

Mission
To assist the Executive Management Team in being good stewards of Divisional financial resources, to make recommendations for policy and financial Divisional priorities and share results with H&FS staff members.
Goals
- To assist and recommend financial policies to the Executive Management Team.
- To develop and recommend annual financial goals and targets for Divisional units.
- To provide structure for monthly meetings to review unit financial performance.
- To provide accurate information to staff.
- To share information and communicate to others within H&FS.
Membership Deliverables
- To review and monitor Divisional financial data to ensure financial targets are being met.
- To recommend top-line financial revenue and net income goals for units to Executive Management Team.
- To organize and coordinate monthly unit financial statement reviews.
- To develop and recommend annual financial goals and targets that support Divisional priorities.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ADVISORY WORK GROUP

Mission
To assist the Executive Management Team with managing, planning and implementing information technology systems that support the business functions of the Division of Housing and Food Services.
Goals
- To develop and recommend long range plans (2-3 years) to Information Systems that support the business functions of H&FS.
- To develop and articulate the IT strategy for the Division.
- To assist in the development and implementation of IT policies that support the Division.
- To serve as a vehicle to determine H&FS IT priorities and make recommendations to Executive Management for annual approval.
- To share information and communicate to others within H&FS .
Membership Deliverables
- To develop and recommend annual IT plans which are to include recommendations for software and hardware acquisitions.
- To recommend annual IT projects for the Division to the Executive Management Team .
- To serve as a vehicle for units to submit IT project recommendations and to prioritize projects for the Executive Management Team.
- To continually examine external technology developments and trends and recommend strategies that will benefit customers and the Division.
MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION WORK GROUP

To assist the Executive Management Team in creating and maintaining Division's value promise and communication strategy that serves the mission of the Division of Housing and Food Services and Michigan State University.
Goals
- To develop strategies to communicate organizational culture and shared values.
- To assist in the development and implementation of the Division's value promise and diverse customer service strategies of units.
- To assist in the development and implementation of market research strategies for units.
- To provide brand management recommendations for units for approval from the Executive Management Team.
- To provide accurate information to staff.
- To share information and communicate to others within H&FS.

- To develop and implement a comprehensive annual marketing plan for the Division to be adopted by the Executive Management Team.
- To develop and recommend strategies to communicate the H&FS value promise using multiple media formats.
- To assist and develop brand management strategies for the Division.

- To be aware of trends in the marketplace that can influence our products and services.

Mission
To assist the Executive Management Team with creating a culture of environmental stewardship and social responsibility that is committed to fulfilling the strategic imperatives of Boldness by Design.
Goals
- To develop strategies and maintain an organizational culture that value environmental stewardship.
- To assist with reviewing all business procurement practices and with developing processes and procedures that support sustainability.
- To continually find sustainable practices that are cost effective and efficient.
- To encourage new building and renovation projects are constructed to meet LEED accreditation.
- To provide accurate information to staff.
- To share information and communicate to others within H&FS, our customers, and the University community .
Membership Deliverables
- To evaluate current practices and develop a database of projects, successes, and sustainable practices.
- To have two management staff per operational unit become LEED certified by December 2008.
- To develop a work plan by December 2008 that designates sustainable goals, procedures, and processes for the Division.
- To work with Marketing and Communication to develop a communication plan.
VIRTUAL SALES WORK GROUP

Mission
To assist the Executive Management Team in creating a mechanism of selling food, beverage, and conference space by any of the Division's sales staff.
Goals
- To develop strategies to communicate food, beverage, room, and conference space to customers across the Division that meets the customer's price point and needs.
- To assist in the development of a seamless sales process for the customer.
- To assist in the development and implementation of strategies to up-sell Divisional services.
Membership Deliverables
- To recommend strategies to create a one-stop initial Division sales.
- To develop and recommend strategies to communicate and market our services.
- To assist development of implementation plan.
- Recommendations are due to the Executive Management Team by February 15, 2008.
